$250 Stimulus Check In 2009 For Retirees, SSI and Disabled Vets

The 2009 stimulus package signed by president Obama contains quite a few financial stimulus for many different parts of the population.  Infrastructure spending, tax cuts make up most of the bill but one of the key aspects to the package is a special cash payment.  This won’t be like the general stimulus check of last year but will be given to select groups.

if you believe you are eligible for this and did not get a notice, contact the social security office. that’s why their website says. i do know that underage people or if they are 19 and still in school… they will not be getting one. the checks are suppose to start coming out next week. from what i read, the ones with direct deposit will probably receive them first… all checks should be out and received by the end of may. it also asks that you should wait until the 4th of june before calling and asking where it is.

I AM RETIRED FROM DALLAS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT,
SO WILL I RECEIVED THE $250.00?

I’m a retired state employee and I did not see anywhere in the article how or when we will receive the $250. can anyone help.

I have been on ssi since the year 94 or 95 and it was president obamas idea to give people on social security and supplemental security income and railroad benefits and veterans administrinations to get a one time payment of $250.00. I am also mentally challenged and i don’t care if you don’t like it because i have been on ssi for a long time and i don’t plan to get off. I will not accept your foul language and if you can’t be happy for me then phooey with you. I got a notice from social security that i would be getting a one time payment of $250.00 towards the end of May and it will hit my mailbox when i get it so quit griping. I have tried to work before but it just didn’t work out. Janet

Please, someome answer me this simple question.
Why is it that no one can give a straight answer as to: were any May 2009 ssi stimulus checks mailed out or directly deposited into our accounts, and has anyone received their checks as of this date.

Why doesn’t everyone just be thankful for what they have. I’m not going to get a check but who knows there may be one in the future. Hope for the best for everyone. We’re all in this together. Let’s treat each other with dignity.

I have read some posts on blurt it that state that several people have recieved theirs by mail as of may 5th and 7th and two comfirmed direct deposits. They also are posting last 2 digits of ss# to see if there is a pattern being followed by the government. I google the exact phrase ”anyone recieve the 2009 one time stimulus check yet? ” and blurt it is one of the sites that came up. I hope this answered someones question.

Please all, we are fellow man let’s not make earth more hell than it already is. Our time is shorter here than we think.

Great, that is $250 that I will have toward paying bills. There is one thing that I am not clearly seeing in any of your responses on this web site. That is, anyone who is really disabled know the frustration that they go through to find a job that better suits them with their physical disabilities; especially in geographical areas where jobs are few and far apart.

Those survivors who are too young to go to work who are receiving the social security survivor benefits, know how much it eases tension(s) around their home to know that much money is coming in to help put a roof over their head, pay for food, pay for clothing, etc; after all, on their 18th birthday those benefits are cut off. As far as I know the widow’s social security pensions are cut off after about 18 or 20 months…. exception being those widows who are disabled and cannot work. All those programs are good….. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to go back to the days when there were no programs to help the needed, disabled, young survivors, and recipient of widow’s pensions, etc.

Janet it is great that you work and support your children, but there are people who genuinely need the benefeits from the government to survive. There is no need to be so hostile the stimulas that some receive I am sure is greatly needed and in retrospect some of US who are receiving it will merely be assured that the lights or gas will remain on. I am currently unemployed my job closed down, I am also a disabled Vet. I thank God for the assitance I receive from the govt. My state is currently provideing unemployment and the stimulas from the president will assist I also have a mtg topay. So dear understand that the programs are for those in need and calling people out of their names is a poor example for you to set for your children. Be thankful and hope you are never in the position to need assistance, I never thoought I would be!!!!!God bless you and your family

I am one of those unfortunate people who is disabled, And for those who keep saying that those d___mned people need to go to work . I dare you to take on my disabilities and find a company who would employ a person who without narcotic pain killers could even sit up, or is sooo allergic to 26 of the 44 things they test for and who also has chronic uncontrollable asthma, as well as chronic degenerative joint disease
with spastic neck spasms. not to mention lower back chronic joint degeneration at the lumbar area. I have worked for over 26 years i have paid my taxes and a lot of it .
Unless you are disabled and have experinces simmular to mine then i challenge anyone to take mine so i can go back to work and suport my self cause I’ll tell you its easier for an illegal allien to get what ever they want, schooling, education, food stamps, housing, than it is for a disabled vet that i am to get disability ssd and to have lived on just 200.00 a month. That I do get from the V.A. and I would say to those that if they like the freedoms they do have they owe it to the Many men and women who bravely gave thier lives for your ability to say the crap you are saying. And to deny a dissabled fellow americanor vet or to have animosity towards the disabled over $250.00 . i will hope that you have to endure at least once in your life the shame that goes with not being able to take care of your self and the stigma that also comes with it. Disabled by the term itself says UNABLE TO,
Disabled definitions:
1. Incapable of functioning as a consequence of injury or illness.
2. So badly injured as to be excused from continuing.
words associated with :
Handicapped :
1. Incapable of functioning as a consequence of injury or illness
2. Put at a disadvantage
And granted there are people who don’t need disability but they are put through a process and its a rigorous process . For instance i have been waiting for over 7 years for ssd to except my disabilities . but durring that time i have had no income other than my VA benefits.
So before you Judge dig a bit further and ask the question before pointing a nasty finger at a disabled person. It is societies responsibility to care for the disabled but in your eyes we all probably should be euthanize but loo out for you might put in this situation as well !! 🙂

Concerning Janut She is an antagonist , and what she loves moat is stirring the pot , being inhumane and if she had it her way we would all be thrown into a heap and set afire , but let me remind her that at any point in her life her money and Job can be lost , her 4 bedroom home can burn and depending on where she lives , floods disasters from all areas and all kinds can befall her then her name calling and her judgement will be on her homeless, pennyless, foodless self . Then she will join the ranks of the displaced, heart broken, disabled, moneyless people that she has taken the time to insult here . I will pray that she never has to but she ultimately is not in control either. My advice Ignore her because in times like these from the top to the bottom there are people who just want to do one thing and thats belittle the hurting , kick them when they are down ……… Right Janut

Not that I have to explain myself, but I’d like but for people as ignorant as Janet to understand that there are people that need things such as SSI, the stimulus, and many other government services to survive in this country’s very poor economic status. I am 24 years old, mother of a 4 year old child with Sickle Cell Disease. I am a single mother (his father was killed in Iraq and we were not married so that left me with nothing), full-time college student studying child psychology. My son is CONSTANTLY in the hospital, ( I would say about 3 times a month). There is no way that I would be able to get a job at this critical time in my son’s life. There is no one in this country that would hire me and would allow me to take 2 to 3 weeks of the month off to be by my son’s side in the hospital. I am the one that has to be by his side at all times caring for him. I receive SSI for him to help me put clothes on his back, and food in his stomach. Now I ask you, you sit here on this site with nothing better to do but slam on the people that need the assistance. Not those that abuse the system and have no need for it, but the people that NEED it. Unless you are going to pay my rent, pay for a 24/7 babysitter for my child, put me through college, and support all the other SSI recipients, I suggest you shut your mouth.
Thanks,
Nathalie

Yeah I agree. I have had about enough of the judgmental crap being posted here. All the self-righteous high and mighty types can post elsewhere.

im tired of janet and that big mouth who someone needs to shut i read these comments daily and now its time to be heard im disabled with 3 kids life is hard not just for me but many i live on ssi im grateful for what little i get it seems to me that janet has issues how can u say the things u do to all those in need i dont think u are really any better the truth is u are probally worse off if the truth be known

To those who seem to want to put down our government I feel sorry for you and pray that God will help you over come your hatred and to the veterans that are struggling to cope with life after war. I pray for you and bless you for fighting for my freedom and those that put you down. God bless and keep you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for fighting for my fredom.
I am 71 yrs of age and live on SS and thank god we have it otherwise , how would we survive?

Amen Betty. I too am grateful for what I have and the stimulus payment can’t come soon enough. Jane, I could not imagine having three kids and living on SSI. It must be very hard.

So many are struggling and how despicable of the haves to post vile things on here to tread upon the have-nots. To those veterans, the elderly -to those who have served this nation God bless you. To the ones who mistreat the less fortunate-God have mercy on you.

I called my bank today and used the automated service, I punched my numbers in and it said the check was deposited May 18, 2009. Today is the 13th. So i guess it will be available to me on that day. So I guess if you have direct deposit you should try calling you bank, also my last two SSN digits are 84. Anyhow, the 18th can’t come soon enough!

I have received my ssi stimulus check today 5-15-09. I live in New York. We can not cash until 5-18-09.

HOW ABOUT SINGLE MOMS WHO GET ZERO CHILD SUPPORT>? THIS MAKES ME SO MAD I COULD SCREAM. I DON’T KNOW WHY IM WAISTING MY TIME W/ THIS MY MESSAGE ISN’T GUNNA GET ANY CASH SENT MY WAY! THIS WORLD SUX. AND THERE ARE DISSABLE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT DOOO DESERVE IT LIKE THE PERSON SAID…THATS NOT THE LIFE THEY WANT TO LIVE DONT JUDGE TILL YOU HAVE BEEN IN SOMEONES SHOES!~

I have also received my payment via direct deposit. For those of you who get monthly benefits administered this way, check your bank balance as it may have been deposited.

so only people drawing MY social security I PAID IN all my life, will get a
stimulus check. So not only do i not get a stimulus check my social security
wont be there when i need it either.

What about the working man that does not owe taxes because of low wages ?
Does he get a tax break NO! Does he get a stimulus check NO! Anything ? NO!

I did not get the stimulus check because I still owed some money to the VA PHARMACY! I had been making payments but am on disability/retirement, making totoal of $675. Minus food and rent of $400( no cable)
And want no pity BEFORE you start blaming me for serving my country in the first place.
W.

When will you get your money?
Social Security is squeamish about specifying a schedule because it doesn’t want to alarm folks who might not get the payment when they expect it. But you should get your money within a few days after you receive your regular monthly benefit. If your benefit is normally deposited into your bank account on the second Wednesday of the month, for example, the extra $250 should show up by the following Monday. (Be sure to adjust your balance accordingly.)

My mother (95) just received the $250 by direct deposit this past week. Not all disabled veterans in receipt of VA benefits will get the $250, only those veterans who receive a VA Pension (few and far between). To me personally, a one time feel good gesture of $250 is a slap in the face to the folks who are going to receive it. It might, just might cover the cost of one medication for one months for one person, or pay a utility bill for one household for one months, providing you don’t have to use the furnance or the AC…….., etc. This is like giving a family a “Christmas Basket”, feeling good about it and then not doing anything else to assist good and decent families the rest of the year.
To the posters who feel it necessary to debase and degrade others, I hope misfortune never visits your doorway, because what goes around does come around and I don’t think anything good will be coming your way.

Hi Joanna, I agree that the bashers spewing hate here will have it returned. For most, the $250 will be gone soon. Wayne, you should be very proud for serving your country. Shame on the naysayers who aren’t.
Kevin, I am not sure how they figure when to deposit the funds, maybe it is based on the order of ones SSN. I know of many who have received the payment via direct deposit.

To Steve and other distinguished veterans: My sincerest gratitude and thanks for your selfless service. I am a US Army veteran myself and married to a now retired soldier. Believe me, I know the frustrations of jumping through the VA hoops, of having to file countless appeals, provide the same documentation over and over again, meet tight deadlines while the VA system is backlogged, up to more than two years in some cases and fighting the system as if it were another conflict. After 15 years of not going away, as it would seem the VA would want us to do, my husband finally received his rating. The “system” is quick to charge and collect……and S L O W when the F L O W should be going the other way. Hang in there! Be assured that your brothers and sisters are with you, always.

Joanna and to all Veterans,

First off! You all are my true heroes !!

Here is a link to maybe some good advice and some help the trusted name of Jim Strickland. http://www.theveteransvoice.com/Strickland.html

As I read all the different articles I find some things confusing such as some articles state that disabled veterans will get the $250 but when reading this article it would state that a veteran getting a pension will get the money with no mention of any disabled vet getting it. It also truly states that if you are collecting SSI or social security and some government retirees that don?t get SS.

Here is what the article here reads.
? People currently receiving Social Security.
? State government retirees not eligible for Social Security.
? Veterans receiving pensions from the Department of Veteran Affairs.
? People receiving SSI payments. Supplemental Security Income payments are for people who have little to no income and is intended to meet the basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.

Here is a page that reads that disabled veterans should get a check
http://dodd.senate.gov/?q=node/4966

I had to retire early due to health reasons and soon after my health insurance got to the point that I can?t afford it so I?m now relaying on the VA for my health care and now I?m thankful for being drafted. ? Now I?m almost telling my age ? I?m one out of four boys and if the only one that didn?t serve, we would have cover all four of the major military branches. One brother died in a VA hospital and the other Vet. has two purple hearts and a bunch of ribbons/metals but refuse to use the VA. I?m also a disabled Vet.

If I do get a check then I hope to be able to put that money into the small Mom and Pop shops in my area.

having those that are retired and not working get a check makes sense. other wise they’d be left out with everyone else getting an extra $400 over the course of the year via tax rebates.

I’M OWED OVER 17,00 DOLLARS IN CHILD SUPPORT ( ARREARS). WILL I RECEIVE ALL OF THE 250.00 OR WILL THE DISABLED VET GET THE MONEY? iF SO WHEN WILL THEY BE SENT OUT.

well I guess it is better than nothing. A extra 250.00 . Would rather have a raise in my much deserved paycheck or a cut in my insurance premium but 250.00 well I can use that to pay down the deficit …..

I Recived a letter from the Department of Veteran Affairs friday, May 29th saying we will recive our Stimulus Check in June!

When in June? With our June check? Or later? I really need that
money NOW! I haven’t gotten a letter from the VA yet so I have
no clue what that letter says.

Please, if someone can tell me I would really appreciate it.

heres what the first part of the letter says.

Good news! The economic recovery legislation, signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009, provides for a one-time payment of $250 to eligible VA beneficiaries. VA will begin releasing one-time payments in June, and you do not need to apply to receive this payment.

(this is at the bottom of the page)
If you do not receive your payment by July 10, 2009, please contact us.
here is the nubmer 1-800-827-1000
Be sure to refer to your VA file number

I’am a Veteran and was wondering what day in June,09 would I get my check as, it’s goes direct to my bank. I spent 20yrs. in the army and was in war also.

Thanks Butch. I still haven’t gotten the letter you got, and I sure as
hell didn’t get it yesterday with my disability check deposit. I can
just imagine it won’t come in until the July check. Hell, it wouldn’t
surprise me if we all got ours on July 9th!

I am writing for my future husband which finally after a long time is getting his V A benefits From Being in Vietnam war and it took so long to get anything . After being shot and operations on his arms and legs and being in a wheelchair and having to learn too walk again , I am asking for him when will he get a payment or do you get a purple heart and bronze star for shedding your blood for your country and get nothing . I think he is qualified for it . Dont you. Please send me a answer

Yes Debbie, he will get the $250 stimulus check too. I am a Disable Vietnam vet also, and only starting reciving VA benefits in 1995.

I feel your pain. It took me 20 years…
Many have shedding blood for our country and got the Boot.
HANG IN THERE!!!

I can’t tell you all what day it will come……. But it will come!

Just read on another site that the VA checks should be getting sent out about June 15th. I guess someone called the 800 number and got the info. Here I was hoping they would send it a couple of days after the regular check like they did for Social Security. Oh, well. Another week and a half to wait. Hope this helps some of you.

So I’m assuming that veterans rated at 10% won’t be getting the $250? Can anyone confirm?

Andy, try the toll free Number… they should be able to give you the info you need.

1-800-827-1000

I’m a service connected vet and like others, am waiting for this stimulus check too. As of today, June 7, I have not received it. I did get a letter in the mail from the VA stating if I don’t receive the check by June 10, to call them. So I guess everyone is supposed to get their checks by June 10?

I just tried the 800 number and they have a message at the beginning
that says the checks will be “released by the end of June”. I suppose
that means that they will wait and send it with our July checks, or
perhaps figure out some way to delay it for even a few more weeks!
I was really counting on seeing that in the next few days. I don’t
know what I’m going to do now. This sucks.

called the VA yesterday they said they had a window of 30 days to get the check out….and if you do not receive it by July 10th to call them.

I lost my unemployment and my husband is not getting much work we all need help.. please help….
