In 2010, President Obama will be paying out a $250 stimulus check to all eligible recipients of SSI which is stands for “Supplemental Security Income”. This $250 payment is part of his ongoing efforts to stimulate the poor economy out of recession.
Who is eligible for the $250 stimulus?
Anyone who is currently receiving SSI payments will be eligible for the $250 check. There are also some other groups who will receive this check including Social Security recipients and disabled veterans.

When will the $250 checks be paid out?
It is not known at this time when the payments will be made but it is likely that they will be paid in the first quarter of 2010 (ie before the end of March).
Is there any income limit for the $250 payment?
No, it doesn’t matter if you have other income or if you are working or not. It doesn’t matter how much income you make – you will still get the check.
How much will this cost the government?
According to White house officials, the cost of all the stimulus checks will be $13 billion. A large amount of money but don’t forget that the stimulus package for 2009 was almost $800 billion.
Why is the government doing this?
The government is giving out this money in order to try to stimulate the economy. Because of problems in the financial markets and housing markets over the last 2 years, there has been a slowdown in economic activity in America and many job losses. By putting extra money into the economy it is hoped that the decline of the economy can be slowed down or even reversed.
Will it be a check or electronic payment?
The $250 should be given to you in the same format you currently receive your regular Social Security payment. If you get your SS payment by check then the $250 will also be by check. If you get your SS payment deposited in to your bank account then the $250 will also be deposited into your bank account.

I am on medicaid, and draw $505 a month via SSI and I can asure you I have not received ANY notification of a stimulus check this year. There is nothing we can do but complain and vote the bums out. But instead of “cussing and fussing”, we should be grateful for what we do have and for what we do get, cause how much longer do you think they are gonna keep send us the monthly checks? Theyve already cut out the COLA. Think about all the people who are truly disabled, some of whom are DYING and keep getting turned down for their checks! And people on here are flipping out over $250??? Like its the end of all things????… And people on SSI only received a stimulus check once (last year), While We watched everyone else (SS recipients) get one in the previous years. Do you think that was fair? I didnt. Alot of us on SSI didnt have the opportunity to pay into the system because we were disabled too young. So consider yourself fortune you were able to build a little something up via SS. But I was happy for the people on SS that got the checks those years that we didnt, because regardless of whether they got one or not, my status would not have changed. And You keep talking about God gonna take care of you, yadda yadda yadda… But you dont seem too thankful for what he has already given you. And if you really had faith that he would take care of you, why worry about a pawtry $250? You know, I feel sorry for any individual who has a true disability. As I have lived with a tracheostomy for 15 years. And as if the disability wasnt bad enough, the discrimmination against me has been horrendous. It is something that all disabled people face, we are all in this together. So It really doesnt matter to me who paid in and who didnt. America should take care of America.

For goodness sake – why don’t you stop expecting the government to take care of you and stop complaining when it doesn’t. I’m 66 yrs old, have hypertension (4 expensive meds a day), diabetes (med twice a day), fibromyalgia, degenerative disk disease, severe arthritis, am recovering from right knee total replacement and have a broken left foot. I have had a broken right arm with 4 surgeries. I’m working 50+ hours a week in spite of all this and have already reached the “do-nut hole” in my medicare medicine allotment, but my dr bills are all paid. I have never taken a penny beyond my medicare and social security and am paying my supplement insurance myself. I’m not a high salary employee, just a common worker, who believes in working for a living, so why shouldn’t I get a small token once in my life time?

Well good for you if you can still work S.Sue. But from all of the ailments you say you have, it’s kind of hard to believe. There are those of use who would love nothing better then to be able to return to the work force, and for medical reasons we can’t. No one is expecting the government to take care of us, we are just asking for is actually rightfully ours to begin with. Since we did not get our COLA this year, and possibly not again next year, the $250.00 is the least they could do for us. You say you have already reached the donut-hole, so you have no reason to complain, because you are one of the ones who will get the $250.00. I have many medications I am on also, but I will just miss making it to the donut hole, so by being away from reaching it by maybe $100… I will not get the $250.00 The way Government is setting the regulations on this is just insane. But of course they don’t actually care, because the make the big bucks, and really couldn’t care less about us. I for one am sure not going to care about them in the least when the next voting day comes !

Open letter to Mr Obama : Sir I see you just signed a bill giving the unemployed more money to draw on .Great many are families in need of this bill , and my heart goes out to them. On the other hand us folks on SSI or SSD got nothing. They say we didnot need a COLA raise in Jan 2010 ,cost of living dident go up they claim . I had originally read they were suppose to send the $250.00 out to the people who reached the donut hole. And then in Sept. they are suppose to send $250.00 to the others that receive Medicare or Social Security only. I saw President Obama on the news the other day, saying it wasn’t that long ago that He and His Wife, were going through what many Americans are going through now. Worrying about Savings, and sending children to college, and retirement funds. I was screaming at the tv, are You kidding Me, that may be what the rich is worried about. But most Americans are worried about are they going to have a job tom. or health insurance, or even be able to keep their home. I applied for the Mortgage remodification, and was turned down for a forberance. Figure that out, now We were just sold to another mortgage company for the 3rd time and We have to start all over again. By the time they are done playing theses games, We will be losing Our House. So how many of You are worried about Your saving account, not Us, We don’t have one to worry about, and My Husbands retirement, there is none with His company, as for the college for Our Children already mortgaged Our Home to the max, before the crises and before My Husband’s income dropped $20,000. last Year. So how can President Obama say just a few Years ago He and His wife were where most Americans are today.

Hey you all. Went to a meeting with our congressman last week.Ask him about the 250 he stated it was already sent out. The thing is it went tothe people that went into the donut on part D. He stated that is all there is going to be. So it looks like we are not gettingthe 250.
