America is still hurting from the recession. Unemployment is high and the economy is not doing well. The country is just not growing fast enough to handle the large numbers of unemployed people.
People who don’t have jobs, tend not to have much money. People who don’t have much money, don’t spend much money. The economy slows down when too many people stop spending and indicators such as unemployment rates start to climb.

It’s not just the unemployed who aren’t spending, many employed people have cut back on their expenses for fear that they might lose their jobs or face wage cuts.

One solution to get people spending is another stimulus check in 2011. In 2008, the government gave out money in order to help the economy. Checks of up to $600 per person were mailed out. It’s hard to tell if that stimulus was successful or not. The economy hasn’t recovered, however the economy might be worse, had it not been for that $600 stimulus check.
The government has not announced any plans to give out stimulus check in 2011, but if the economy does not improve in the next few months then it has to be a consideration.
Recent stimulus checks
2009 – $250 stimulus check was mailed out for recipients of Social Security, SSI and others.
This stimulus check was intended to make up for the fact that the Social Security raise for 2009 was zero, because of low inflation.
2008 – $600 per adult, $300 per child.
These 2008 stimulus checks were mailed out to everyone, unless your income was too high to qualify. The idea behind these checks was to help stimulate the economy.

I really hope that the 2010 Stimulus will come in the form of a check. That is the only way that it will work. Giving back via per paycheck with the average being $66 per month is not going to stimulate the economy because of consistently rising prices with Gasoline, Groceries, and services. Not to mention that those people who lost their job will not receive a cent if it is through payroll taxes. The only way that it will really make a difference is to send out the $600, $1200, or more depending on the size of the family. This will put a chunk of money in the hands of the people so that they will spend.
I am on ssi and cannot work.Taxes and bills or on the rise and i have no help from outside.I really need this small amount,after all every little bit helps.But my concern is how is this going to be paid back?America is almost broke and very much in debt.
I must say I am becoming quite disapointed with promises of help for people on social security. I know $250.00 may not seem like alot of money to some people, but, to people like myself, who have to depend on a small amount of SSD, it’s alot. I have worked throughout my life, and was not proud of having to go on SSD. But to have a disibility and not enought money to pay for my meds., is degrading. I’m sure there is many more people who are suffering and just trying to survive on SS. The government needs to understand we need the stimulus of 2010. Not want it….But NEED IT.
I understood the 2010 stimulus check was to be paid to SS and SSI reciepients by the end of march,2010. I am a senior on SS and received no COLA this year,being on a limited income and struggling to begin with,and receive nothing? Seniors cannot live on broken promises.

What the gov’t. needs to do is put the stimulus in the form of a credit card that has to be used within a year. That way it would be used for purchases. They should also increase the amount…like $1,000 to $3,000 per person. This will get people to go out and buy big screen TV’s, new cell phones, furniture, home remodeling. This is what would help the economy.
my husband and i are also on ssi . that extra money means a lot to us because we can never have anything extra. just meds and groceries and bills takes all of our money. it has been a couple of years since we could even buy clothes. I don’t understand why all the other presidents could give us a raise or stimulus check and this president can’t for two years. first time it hasn’t happened.

There are some good and bad points to stimulus checks. The good point is obvious, it helps those needing it for medication etc. The bad point is it adds more to the devicit and ignores the ones that are still working adding more problems for them. Going further into debt never helped anyone.

I am raising disabled twins both of whom receive SSI. The goverment doesn’t give one damn iota about the disabled, in Oregon their taking away the 20 hour personal care that my boys receive not to mention for the second year in a row there is no COLA WTF is wrong. Im told the cost of living hasn’t gone up, yet my rent has gone up each year, gas cost more even milk cost more so how the HELL can they say the COST OF LIVING has not gone up BS !! Wondering where it is these people live that the cost of living hasn’t gone up for them, oh yeah thats right their RICH, who gives a damn about a single mother struggling to give the best she can to her disabled twins. It’s a crying shame that this small amount of money in the form of a one-time $250.00 payment to SSI and SSD recipients has been on and off the table so many times and is still undecided. If our elected leaders masters in Tel Aviv asks for another $10 billion dollar gift of US tax payer’s money our Congress will get it to them within 24 hours. Yet, Americans are suffering and these very politicians just don’t give a damn. No Cola this year or next with out of control inflation for even the basic necessities and our government cannot be bothered to help us out. What an atrocity.

President Obama can only do so much with Congress trying to block everything he tries to do for us. I am very pleased that there is a freeze on government raises and I hope they begin to feel the pinch we are experiencing. I can not understand why Congress or whoever is responsible for our Stimulus Payment did not give it to us for 2010 and why they are dragging their feet about the 2011 payment. Medications are on the rise, food is on the rise, gas prices are flucuating (one day drops 1 cent, next day rise 2-3 cents) so how can anyone say that there is no need for a COLA? We really need the stimulus from 2010 in addition to 2011 and it would help all of us on SSA, SSI, and so forth if the stimulus was more than $250.
I really could use some help. I have an infected abcessed tooth that lands me in the emergency room every month due to the pain. I am not allowed to see a dentist, as Medicare does not feel Dental Care is important. Evreytime I go to the E.R. for temporary relief from the pain (anti-biotics and pain pills) the cost is over $1,000.00 Would it not make more sense to let me see a dentist and have the tooth removed? That $250.00 might cover it, since Medicare won’t. I cannot afford to pay it, as I already live below the poverty level. I am sure I am not the only person suffering with poor dental health.
I make enough money to survive with no problem. I have two kids and a wife. But only in the past year have i found a job that has allowed me us to live that way, but anyway my grandparents struggle every month to pay there bills, not to long ago they have there ss cut and there food stamps cut back at the same time its ignorant that they live that way when there are people out there that can work just choose not to they need stimulas of 2011 to help them. Like i have seen other people say on here that little stimulas helps a whole lot to buy there meds for a couple months out of the year

i’ve been on ss disability since ’98 and trying to live off of $740 a month is tough even with some food stamps. i’ve had to continuously “borrow” money from my family, that doesn’t really have it to lend just to live. i don’t see how any of us are doing it. rent $650 utilities climbing because it’s colder. and i’ve opted to stop taking certain meds to save money……how’s that really gonna help me in the long run when i have so many medical problems?! a stimulus check would be nice, no doubt. but, an increase in cost of living, so our monthly checks would be a little more would be even better. every time i’ve tried to take on a part-time job, i end up with my health at risk or worsened from the mental or physical stress and it becomes a fruitless effort. it being the holiday season now, i’m just trying to figure out things i can make for those i love out of what i already have and spend time with them.
Let’s see….on a fixed income of SS and my State Disability Pension, there has been no COLA for 2 years . I was forced to pick a Medicare Part D prescription plan, even though I was blessed with good health and took no medications. I picked the cheapest monthly plan of $15 a month, with no deductible. I never used it, therefore I paid $15 a month for 12 months and got nothing out of it. Last year, no COLA again and had to be on a Part D plan once again. I found a plan with $15 payment and $175 deductible. Started on Synthroid in Sept at a cost of $15 a month. Didn’t meet my deductible, therefore the plan paid nothing, I paid $15 a month out of pocket for my medication. In the mail comes the new card for 2011. Good thing I called them. My monthly rate climbed from $15 to $34. Must I keep on Medicare Part D even though I don’t use it? Absolutely, you’ll be penalized if you don’t stay on it. 2011 is around the corner. No COLA, but thankfully for most of us, Medicare premimums won’t go up, but the Part D prescription plan triples in cost. No $250 stimulus for 2011. As I said, I’ve been blessed with good health so far, but what happens to those who aren’t as fortunate as I’ve been? How sad to think that our citizens are being raked over the coals…………..
I, too, am on SSI and SS. I never received even one stimulus check. I am probably no longer able to receive this money either.
For people who live on nothing, and cannot have anything (because social security will take it out of our checks), getting money from them would be a nice gesture (plus for those of us who can’t afford things most people with decent incomes take for granted like a nice home and family insurance for medical/dental bills — medicaid/medicare doesn’t cover some things). If anyone deserves a break it should be those who don’t pay taxes due to poor/fixed/low incomes like the veterans and disabled.
I was married to someone on SSI and they LOWERED MY check because they said ‘it’s cheaper for two people to live together than separate”. I think they should give people on SSI/SS because in my opinion it’s like receiving gan income tax return–that we’ll give right back to them when we spend it.

im on ssi everything has gone up, gas, food, electric, ect…. i agree with the tax cut if it will help people that dont have a job , im not for helping the rich get richer they could share some of their money to help the poor everyone forgets about the poor people of american its always the middle class or rich there are people having to find ways to make ends meet living on 600.00 or less a month have the goverment seen how high gas prices are now and food … i guess not if they say we dont need a check or a raise to help us out why not share your money with us , is it that hard for you to cut back on your pay to help the american people out ……. shame on you all …… god bless american
We need the stimulus checks cause of the gas prices keep going up . Can’t go to Dr. appointment cause they are to fare from home and the gas prices are to high.Give us a stimulus check and knock down the gas prices.Help out american that are trying to get out of a hole and back on their feet. the stimulus check for 2011 would be a great help for people on a fixed income.the goverment should check into the people that can work and always some how know how to beat the system for more help.stop some of the stamps that people receive that are able to work but choose to sit on the behinds and want more.the elderly are the people that have worked all their lives and have to try and make it on their social security and getting no raises and every thing is still very expensive some one needs to listen.

you are not supposed to be able to live off of it and it was never intended to be your only income.
my grandma and aunt get ssi and they do fine.
they knew that anything could put them out of work so they invested and saved and put into retirement.

Dear Lucas, people on SSI are allowed to make less than $100.00 a month above what the small stipend pays, at least in the state of Oklahoma, that is. Otherwise, it is deducted from their allowance. Foodstamps will be cut back or off as well. Also, SSI recipients cannot have above $2,000 in a bank account, nor may they own property.
The reason people receive SSI is because they have some type of disorder or illness that prevents them from holding down regular jobs. Often medical issues are not addressed by the medical profession because Medicaid will not cover the costs.
Now, as a person on SSI, I will say that I do appreciate any type of aid available to me. I do not “work the system” — I merely use services that apply to me because I suffer from chronic pain, DID, bipolar disorder, arthritis, Lupus, fibromyalgia, etc., and could not possibly afford to treat these problems on my own. Even if I had a job as a researcher, historian, child psychologist, all areas of interest to me, it would be difficult for me to find insurance to cover these costs.
Please, before making sweeping generalizations, research your topic. There are real people living this lifestyle not by choice but by unavoidable circumstance, and we know what benefits we have, what the government permits, what our limitations are, and believe me, no honest person in our position is prospering financially.
I looked for a stimulus last year that never came. I get less than $1,000 a month and look forward to any ertras. I only get $34 in food stamps and go to two food banks. I’ll be 64 in two weeks and draw a SS disabilty &QMB. what are people lik me to do? There are a lot of us with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems and others. I know a stumulas check won’t solve our problems but will help. A higher amount of food stamps will sure help.
They can’t give people drawing SSI a raise, but they can however give themselves a 3% raise, Like they really need it. Give them a few more years and there won’t be a middle class any more.
If the economy is so great and imporving as Obama says it is, why am I having to live on less and less each month as my electric bill, rent, car gasoline, groceries, meds, dr bills, insurance for car, continuing to go up each month. Hoping for a 2011 stimulus check…dont understand why we didnt get it in 2010 or at least fome kind of a raise on our social security….I have worked a total of 38 years of my life paying in to social security all of these years. I hope congress wont forget about us old timers that have helped pay into the social security all those years….I think our government needs to help us Americans before going to foreign countries and quit giving social security disability to drug addicts and alcoholics. They are physically able to work….also sometimes they are really young and dont need ssi …they r able to work. I have been on disability for 5 years,the last 2 we havent received any increases in our benefits. With everything going up except OUR benefits i may have to go back to work against my doctors orders and my familys request. If we don’t get help anytime soon , SSI may have to pay for my funeral.
