When Will You Get Your Early Economic Stimulus Rebate Check?

“When will I get my economic stimulus rebate check?” is one of the big questions that Americans are asking themselves at the moment. Actually I’ve been asking that question as well but I’m not holding my breath for it!

The economic stimulus checks started on April 28 and will continue through to mid-July of 2008.

The schedule for people who filed their taxes by April 15 is based on the last 2 digits of their SSN – Social Security number. If you filed jointly then the payments will go out based on the person listed first on the return.

IF YOU USE DIRECT DEPOSIT

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be transmitted no later than:
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16

IF YOU WILL GET REBATE BY MAIL

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be mailed no later than:
00 through 09 May 16
10 through 18 May 23
19 through 25 May 30
26 through 38 June 6
39 through 51 June 13
52 through 63 June 20
64 through 75 June 27
76 through 87 July 4
88 through 99 July 11

If you couldn’t get your act together to file your taxes by April 15 (but you did file since then right?) then you will get your rebate about 2 weeks after the scheduled date. You need to file your taxes by October 15 in order to get a rebate this year.

Here is the IRS online calculator to figure out how much your rebate will be.

If you are confused about whether this rebate is actually a loan then this post should clear things up.

Excellent move Kyle.

I’m thinking of taking $600 (American of course), pretending it’s my stimulus rebate check (or “cheque” as we like to mis-spell it up here) and blow it all on booze this weekend too.

Hey, when do I get *my* stimulus rebate cheque. Oh, right. I`m not American. And neither is the Four Pillars site, which makes me wonder why this info is up here when there are so many US based PF bloggers writing extensively about this.

For me, the best thing about Canadian PF sites is that we can get info that actually pertains to us, instead of reading about how much to put in your 401(k) etc.

Hi Shevy, this blog might be Canadian but that doesn’t mean we don’t write about non-Canadian topics.

According to our statistics software, 50% of our readers are American.

Mike, I’m not saying never to write about American topics but it seemed pretty ironic when today was *our* tax filing deadline. I think there are plenty of potential posts that relate directly to that (and it’s not so far past April 15th that our neighbors couldn’t pick up a nugget or two to make next year’s filing easier).

I have to admit to being one of the folks driving their return to the taxation centre today…but at least it’s in and on time!

Squawk – you write with an Aussie accent – that’s why!

Shevy – thanks a lot for the comments, it’s great to get feedback from a reader. Plus, it shows you care!

It’s funny you mention the tax deadline since I completely forgot about it. I filed my taxes over a month ago since we were owed a nice chunk back.

It’s important for me to write about things that I’m interested in – to do otherwise is to invite burnout which I don’t want to happen.

Monday’s post on the stimulus check was motivated by my interest in the topic. I don’t think handing out big checks to a country’s citizens has been done very often and I will be watching closely to see if it has any effect.

Wednesday’s post on the stimulus check timetable was admittedly a lame post for all our regular readers, however I have a great interest in SEO which is the “art” of driving search engine traffic to a website. This post was intended to be an experiment in that field (which unfortunately didn’t work).

Anyways, if you have any topics you would like to see covered then feel free to send an email and we will see what we can do!

How did you like the Derek Foster book by the way?

Mike

Squawkfox, it’s because of your dog, right? When you mentioned the breed it had Aussie or something in the name, hence googlers are finding you through searching Australia frugal etc.

guinness416: I just did a nerdy thing and checked through my stats for Google searches. I have ZERO searches for Australia or dog or any combination. Guess the Aussies just have awesome taste. 😉

Good on the Canucks for NOT having a “stimulus plan” like we have down in the States… it’s a ridiculous and short-sighted idea which won’t lead to any long-term cures for what ails us. That said, I’ll be pleased to receive my check/que, although it will all go toward our family’s health insurance costs for the coming year living overseas. Sigh.
